Now, I understand when people decide not to go see specific movies or watch specific content due to the fact that it is a bit too graphic. Its the idea of trying to separate yourself from this evil world so that you might not be affected by it.
I went to a conference in my teens dedicated to learn how to be a better evangelical Christian (Look how well that turned out, lulz.) and I did learn a few things that helped me grow as a person, and into my own belief system. A good hour of the conference (which was about 8 hours altogether) was about monks and miners.
Let me explain:
Monks are the kind of people who try to block potentially harmful and sinful media and real life situations out of their lives in order to not be affected and harmed by that specific situation/media.What happens is that these people limit themselves, and rarely have a chance to think for themselves... But listen to what other people tell them is okay to watch and hear instead.
Miners are people who take in this potentially harmful media, and decide for themselves what is good or not... Or if it could potentially be good in the end. There was some reason why this was bad as well, and the speaker said it was a good idea to be somewhere in the middle. I mine most of the media out in the world, besides from horror films which are just gore... I am not cool with that.

What bugs me the most about people who 'Monk' their problems, especially with media... Is the fact that they really arent. Lets take a tv show who bleeps out a curse word for instance. In that moment that they blurt out that bad word... It automatically makes you think about that word, and places it in your mind instead of passing by it. How is that helping you monk your problems?
I think that you might have to become a hermit with no contact to the outside world to live in the sinless world you expect.
This blog has turned into a rant more or less... I'm done for the night! Have a good one!
